EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH GROUP MENTORING
CHANGING THE NARRATIVE
Adolescents are regularly diminished by labels that define them as consumers, risk takers, anxious and depressed. We partner with schools to tell a different story that recognises young people’s enormous strengths and potentials
THE NEED
Australian young people navigate complex social, emotional and educational challenges threatening their wellbeing and prospects. When young people lack timely, developmentally-appropriate support, or experience disadvantage, they are more susceptible to mental health concerns, youth offending, disengagement from school and unhealthy life trajectories. They are also at risk of entering adulthood unprepared for new roles and responsibilities.
RITE MENTORING’S RESPONSE
Rite Mentoring has discovered that intentional mentoring relationships can be a powerful avenue of support for students at a key moment in their lives – their high school years. We’ve chosen to partner with high schools because the wellbeing of young people is often connected with their experience of school. By working closely with schools to identify groups of students most likely to benefit from support, we create positive futures together with young people by harnessing the power of mentoring relationships to nurture their unique strengths and prevent negative life trajectories.
